Wilma Jo Chumney Vanlandingham's Obituary
Wilma Jo Chumney Vanlandingham, 93 years young, passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2024 with her family by her side.
Wilma was born March 31, 1930 in Memphis Tennessee. She graduated from Tech High School 1948. She married Wayne Aubrey Vanlandingham October 19, 1949. Her interests were golfing, water skiing, swimming, boating, and dancing. Wilma’s main passion and love was her family.
Wilma was a member of Rebecca Memorial United Methodist /Asbury United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Loyalty Class.
Wilma began her career working as a computer specialist and programmer for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. She retired after 42 years.
After retirement, Wilma was a member of the Ladies Golf League at Overton Park Golf Course, the Ladies Engineer Social Club, and a committee member of the Tech High School class of 48. She was also a volunteer at the McWherter Senior Center and Methodist Hospital Central.
Wilma loved getting together with family and friends. She lived to make others happy. Her sense of humor, spirit, and love of life will be greatly missed.
Those who will miss Wilma the most include her daughter, Vickie Vanlandingham Wyatt of Heath Texas, and 2 grandchildren, Megan Walkowicz (Alan) of Rockwall, Texas and Kristine West (Chris) of Fate, Texas. Three great-grandchildren, Peyton Walkowicz, John West, and Rylee West. All were the love of her life.
Wilma is predeceased by her husband, Wayne Aubrey Vanlandingham, mother and father, Willie and Willie Mae (Thomas) Chumney, sister Doris Chumney Key and brothers Giles Chumney and Robert Elliott Chumney.
Service to celebrate Wilma’s life will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Poplar Avenue, Memphis. Visitation will be from 10-11am Saturday, February 24, 2024. Service and gravesite afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of your choosing in honor of Wilma.
