When I was a kid, uncle Walter came to California to visit my family. It was a hot summer day and I thought it would be fun to play a prank on Walter, so I got him with a squirt gun, or a water balloon, or something. Walter replied in force, sneaking up on me later with an entire bucket of water and dumping it over my head!
Walter loved to tell that story whenever me and my parents visited Memphis. Maybe because the look of shock I had when getting the bucket was unforgettable. Or the look on my parents faces when I walked into the house drenched from head to toe. Or because he got a kick out of returning my mischief ten fold. But I think really he was just happy to have spent time with us that summer and wanted to remember it.
I’ll always remember Walter as a man with a penchant for mischief, a big bucket, and bigger heart.
