Virginia Pretti, whose name will be recognized by many as the first lay principal of St. Agnes Academy and the Lower School Principal of St. Mary’s Episcopal School for Girls, died January 2, 2015. She was the daughter of Italian Read Obituary
Miss Pretti believed completely in us and our future. She “used her power for good” everywhere she could. When my family was unable to pay my full tuition, Miss Pretti found scholarship funding so that I could continue at SAA. She made an incredible difference in so many women’s lives, including mine. Thank you, Miss Pretti.
Miss Pretti was a mentor and believer in “anything is possible”. I learned I could do or be anything if I believed in myself..in spite of my family’s belief in what a woman should do or be….She challenged me to keep seeking my own dreams…not be satisfied with the wishes and dreams of others. I now work with women everyday as a mental health therapist to seek life and believe in themselves…Miss Pretti thank you for all you taught me…you impacted my life and I will never forget you. Will never forget Miss Pretti. I can remember her cheering us on at our games just like it was yesterday. She always wanted us all to be our BEST! I know all of us from the class of 77 has wonderful memories that have helped shape our lives in a very positive way.

We are saddened to hear of Virginia’s passing. My Mother, her aunt, Josephine Giannini, was very close to her and her family since they grew up together. Aunt Rosie and Uncle Si lived across the street from my Nonie, Rosa Stignani, so we often visited Virginia when we were young children. In fact, I still have a pic of Virginia when she was a little girl. Since Virginia and I were both educators, we enjoyed talking about our selected field of interest and I remember how much she loved animals. Sincerest condolences to her family.
