Verna Higgins' Obituary
Verna Rasmussen Higgins, at 99 years young, widow of Lloyd W. Higgins of Memphis and happily married for 52 years, passed away on August 5, 2015, a few short months before her 100th birthday. She was born in New York City (1916), and relocated to Chicago in 1920. Too young to be a flapper, she moved to Memphis (1925), where she attended St. Agnes Academy, graduating in 1934. During her lifetime, she was a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women; The Ladies of Charity; St. Michael’s Catholic Church Altar Society; and spent over 20 years as an auxiliary volunteer with St. Francis Hospital of Memphis. She leaves behind a beloved family: Thomas Lloyd Higgins and his wife Montana of Richmond, VA; Timothy Richard Higgins of Memphis; a grandson, Christopher Thomas Stites and wife Chanda, with their 2 daughters, Tanna & Avery, Denver, Co. “It’s been a good ride”. Visitation will be Monday, August 10 form 12:30-1:30 in St. Michael Catholic Church on Summer Avenue, with a Mass to follow. Memorial Park Funeral Home has change. She will be entombed in Memorial Park Mausoleum. In Lieu of Flowers memorials can be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
