Dr. Tommy Clay Thompson's Obituary
It’s with broken hearts that we share the news of the passing of Dr. Tommy C. Thompson on August 5, 2023.
Dr. Thompson was the oldest child of the late C.S. (Doc) and Beth Thompson. He graduated from Canyon High (Go Eagles) and West Texas State University (Go Buffaloes). He received his M.D. degree from UTMB Galveston, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Pi Medical Fraternity. Dr. Thompson completed General Surgery and Urology Internship and residencies at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital and Balboa Naval Hospital. For four years he was the urologist at the Millington Naval Airbase Hospital.
Dr. Thompson practiced Urology in Memphis, Tennessee and Searcy, Arkansas for almost 40 years. He retired from the Navy as a captain after proudly serving with the Fleet 15 Hospital during Desert Storm Operation.
Survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Prichard Thompson, 6 children Tom, Scott (Shelton), Heather, Gretchen, Chase (Jody), Lily and 8 grandchildren.
Dr. Thompson's grandchildren knew him as "Papa Bear". That was the name/title he wore with the most pride. Whether traveling, cooking out or swimming in the backyard, playing board games, competing in the Thompson Family Olympics or making waffles on Sunday morning, being surrounded by their voices and laughter was the favorite part of his life.
We are deeply saddened by his absence but take comfort knowing that somewhere he's trying out a new recipe, potting plants, watching Fox News, telling stories, laughing and watching over the ones he loved. Old Man, Dad, Papa Bear, travel safe to your new adventure — we love you.
A joyful celebration of a life well lived will be held on November 25, 2023 at 1:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home in the Parkside Event Center. Please join us to share our memories and your memories of Dr. T!
