Tim Wade Hellen's Obituary
Timothy Wade Hellen, a devoted husband, father, and lifelong learner, passed away April 22, 2026, at the age of 84. An attorney for 40 years with Farris, Mathews, Branan, Bobango & Hellen, he was an avid reader, a lover of history and politics, and a man who found quiet joy in a good PBS documentary.
His children, Carre, Rusty, and Jake, were his greatest source of pride. In their younger years, he poured countless evenings and weekends into leading Scouts and helping craft Pinewood Derby cars - never quite winning, but always coming close and always having fun. One of his proudest moments was seeing his grandson, Avery, earn Eagle Scout recognition. He also spent seasons on the baseball field, coaching Jake's rec teams with patience, enthusiasm, and the kind of encouragement that stays with a child for life.
For nearly 31 years, Tim shared his life with his beloved wife, Jill - his partner in travel, curiosity, and conversation. Together they explored the world, collecting stories and a deep appreciation for the people and places they encountered. Their marriage was one of mutual respect and a romance that never dimmed.
Tim will be remembered for his intellect, kindness, and a quiet steadiness that made others feel safe in his presence. He will be deeply missed by those who were lucky enough to know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed Russell and Mary Hellen, and is survived by his wife, Jill; two brothers, Jon (Rita) and Tom (Marsha); three children, Carre, Rusty, and Jacob; five grandchildren, Ashley, Brett, Calla, Chloe, and Avery; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, May 1, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, followed by a service at 1:00 p.m.
