Susan Ellis Kurts' Obituary
A loyal and loving wife, daughter, sister, and friend, Susan Ellis Kurts passed away on Friday, August 26 in Germantown, TN. Susan was born to Sharon M. Ellis and James O. Ellis, Jr. on August 17, 1982 in Memphis, TN. After graduating from Houston High School in 2001, Susan studied nursing at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and The University of Memphis. She graduated Magna cum Laude from the former and was a Member of Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Honor Society and Phi Mu Fraternity. She received the Advanced Adult Health Nursing Student Award for top Clinical Performance and Highest GPA and was also a Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation Scholar. Susan was a distinguished Registered Nurse, nationally recognized as a DAISY Award recipient, who worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital in the Medical/Surgical Unit, at Bailey and Greer PLLC as a Nurse Consultant, and most recently at Methodist University Hospital as an Operating Room Nurse on the Cardiovascular & Transplant Team. She attended Hope Presbyterian Church and was married to William Blake Kurts in her home city of Germantown, TN on November 12, 2013. Susan was preceded in death by her beloved father, “Jimmy” in 2004. She is survived by her devoted husband, Blake (Germantown, TN), her mother Sharon (Germantown, TN), twin brother Ryan S. Ellis (Heather) and family (Nashville, TN), older brother Bradley J. Ellis (Germantown, TN), aunt Cindy Norman (Virginia Beach, VA), cousins Seth Norman (Virginia Beach, VA), Ellis Norman (Long Beach, CA) and Dorrie Norman (Virginia Beach, VA), and husbands parents, Bubba and Deb Kurts (Long Beach, MS.) Susan was bold, brave, and compassionate, and she will forever be missed by her adoring family, friends, and many others whose lives she affected. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 31 from 5:00-7:00PM with the funeral service to be held Thursday, September 1 at 1:00PM. All services will be held at Memorial Park.Memorial donations may be made in Susan’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Germantown Animal Shelter.
