Steve Wilkes' Obituary
Steven Pierce Wilkes Ph.D., D.Miss., 65, went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2016. He was born November 16, 1950 in Gadsden, AL. Dr. Wilkes graduated from Gadsden High School and continued his education at the University of Alabama. He then attended Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Divinity and Ph.D. He later received his Doctor of Missiology from Fuller Seminary, Pasadena, CA. Dr. Wilkes has held several ministry positions at churches in the Mid-South area. He was also the founder and president of World-Wide Church Planters. Through WWCP, he led over 40 mission projects into countries all over the world. Until his passing, he was a professor of missions at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary for over 30 years. Dr. Wilkes is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol Cameron Wilkes; daughter, Meredith Wilkes Tipton and son-in-law, Adam Tipton; and mother, Cindy Longshore. He was preceded in death by his father, Buford Wilkes. Visitation will be 5:30-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31 and funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, April 1 at Longview Heights Baptist Church. The burial in Memorial Park Cemetery will be private. The family requests memorial donations be sent to World-Wide Church Planters or Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary’s Missions Scholarship Fund in memory of Dr. Wilkes.
