Rubye Carlile's Obituary
Rubye Mae Williams Carlile, the family’s hero, or “shero” as we know her, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 and in accordance with her wishes. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Baptist Hospital ICU and Hospice doctors and nurses who gave her exceptional care.Rubye was born July 20, 1920 in Searcy, Arkansas to parents George Edwin and Viola Mae Williams. A child of the Great Depression, Rubye was known for many distinctive qualities throughout her life: resilience, toughness, kindness, faith, determination, sound judgment, humor, formidable memory, no-nonsense personal style and especially the independence that she demonstrated throughout her entire 93 years of life. She was deeply devoted to family and was the most beloved mother and grandmother.She was committed to life-long learning and was a proud Mulerider alumna of Southern Arkansas University. She continued her education through her masters degree in business from Memphis State University.Those missing her most include her son Earl “Speedy”, daughter Carol, son-in-law Van; grandchildren Rachel and Michael, and their respective spouses Senter and Kelly; great grandsons Jackson and Logan; her “grand-dog” Nero, the extended Funderburk and Wickoren family; as well as a host of family, neighborhood and church friends.She was married to W.R. Carlile in 1942. He preceded her in death in 2001. Her brother George E. Williams Jr. was a U.S. Army Captain who was killed during the liberation of France during World War II.Rubye was an active member at Christ United Methodist Church. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, Rubye’s faith and life in the Methodist Church spans over two centuries.
