Ronald L. Whitney's Obituary
Ronald L. Whitney, 81, of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. He was a long time member of OLPH Catholic Church in Germantown and more recently of St. Brigid Catholic Church, Memphis, TN. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gail; three daughters, Paula A. Sullivan of Cordova, Barbara A. White of Cordova and Ronda L. Smith of Southaven, MS and son-in-law Eddie Smith, Southaven, MS; two grandsons, Michael J. Pluta and Andrew T. White as well as Jon Paul Sullivan, Lauren Sullivan Hill and Kelly Sullivan; a Sister, Mrs. Gloria Mitchell and brother in law, Paul Mitchell of North Carolina; many loving nieces, nephews and extended family; and cherished friends and golf buddies, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Whitney and parents, LaVerne and Irma Whitney, of Western New York. He retired in 1986 from a long and very successful career with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. He was known for being Firm but Fair with great compassion and love for God, family and golf. He was an avid golfer and a member of Wyndyke Country Club, where he proudly achieved two “holes in one” over the years and he can now effortlessly walk the plush fairways of heaven. A Memorial Mass for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown, TN. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the personal charity of your choice.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119.
