My father
Anytime I got to spend time with Rick it was a great day. Fondest memory was a "secret" breakfast meeting with a representative of the Genevese crime family from NJ at the Crown Center in KC. The subject was the sole contract of three trains per day moving out of NJ to a newly built landfill in Kingman AZ. Profits daily would be off the charts for us. We both were tabulating just how much we could profit on our little note pads, typical of salesman. We agreed in principal to take a look at it and get back to them.
After the meeting Rick and I went straight to the bar for a much needed morning cocktail....and some serious conversation.
We both knew the money was huge, but dealing with Gotti was a concern.
If payment was delayed, who does our collections?
I looked Rick straight in the eyes and said......we'll send Jim Chaltas.
We laughed so hard that we had a few more drinks. And agreed to respectfully pass on the business which eventually turned out to be a national nightmare for the people that did try to handle it.
