Richard E. Jernigan's Obituary
GENE JERNIGAN, after battling Alzheimer’s disease, went home to the Lord on March 22, 2012. He was born March 2, 1932 to Albert Pierce and Helen Milam Jernigan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marian; one daughter, Diane Jernigan Cothran (Jac) of Brentwood, TN; two sons, Dick Jernigan (Marty) of Nesbit, MS and Mark Jernigan of Oklahoma City, OK. He also leaves one granddaughter, Anna Elizabeth Cothran of Brentwood and one great-granddaughter, Megan Martin of Bethel Springs, TN; one sister, Polly Neal of Jackson, TN, a host of nieces and nephews. He was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and active in the Childrens’ Ministry. Also a member of the Gideon International Ministry for 40 years. He was in the insurance field. He attended Murray State and had a love of music and art. He was a tennis player who loved the game and made friends in all walks of life through the sport. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar between 10:30-11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 27, followed by the service at 11:30 a.m. A special thank you to Amedisys Hospice who provided outstanding care. Also to Cynthia Jones for her kind and consistent care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials for Gene be sent to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 17618, Memphis, TN 38187 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
