Mary Ann & family: Carroll and I have very fond memories of Richard from the days we were pastoring Ripley First United Methodist Church and Richard was pastoring churches in the Gates area. Area ministers gathered weekly at Ripley First for a study group of which Richard was an active participant. What a guy...warm, witty, funny, smart, authentic in sharing his feelings. What a refreshing personality. He was very articulate. He loved his congregations and wanted to minister to their deepest needs. When I retired from Ripley First, Richard spearheaded a study group effort to present me with a treasured plaque which hangs near my study door today. It reads: "Daddy" Russell, We love you. We will miss you. Your Kids. (Six engraved names follow, with the date, May 12, 1998). He called or texted me periodically across the intervening years with his last text dated October 30, 2020. I will miss Richard and pray that God will comfort and bless you. Rev. Russell N. Gallimore, clergy colleague, Jackson, TN March 6, 2021
Richard and I had Lunch together just a few months before the Pandemic hit. He bravely battled orthopedic and other issues. Now pain is over. Unique guy, and as Richard might say to Rich Cook’s naming him a “Curmudgeon”, I

It's very rare you meet the "good" embodiment of a curmudgeon. I met Richard at Memphis Theological Seminary, and it was there I enjoyed some of the most real and honest discussions about life, theology and God. They continued, but not as frequently, when we were appointed to churches, and I regret not taking more time with him. May God bless all those you have left here and all of those you shared your time with.
Without doubt my favorite cousin. We had lots of fun when his family came up to Appleton to visit our Granny or when they came up to Norway to visit my family. In the last years I saw him a couple of times when passing thru Memphis. Always had fun conversations and loved to call him Dickie which would cause him to call me Jeff Peter. I talked to him a couple of days before he passed and he was so upbeat and funny. Bye Dickie, you'll always be in my heart,
Bro. Richard was an amazing man! My dad's hospital stay was his first hospital visit when he came to GJUMC and he my dad's service as well. He was a great friend to my mom afterwards as well as myself. He was deeply missed at GJ, he made an impact on our lives.
Karen & family, my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Remember the butterfly story he told. May he rest in Peace ... until we met again.

So sorry to hear of his passing. We grew up together through Trinity, Snowden, and Central, and I think my father was his pediatrician. As little kids we were "frenemies," and I'm afraid I was sometimes mean to him. But I was always very fond of Dicky, and I'll cherish his memory.
