Dr. Rama Devi Veluswamy's Obituary
Rama Devi Veluswamy MD, of Beaumont TX, passed away peacefully at home in Memphis, TN surrounded by family and friends on Sunday April 7, 2024, just four days before her 77th birthday.
She was born on April 11, 1947 in Hyderbad India, the daughter of a prominent attorney Reddy Reddy Rama Reddy and loving mother Reddy Reddy Chandrakantamma Reddy. Dr. Veluswamy had a joyous childhood, surrounded by her 5 older sisters and 6 brothers, as well as several cousins who were all raised in the same nurturing home. She had a deep desire to enter the medical profession following the footsteps of her older sister, and through support of her mother, she received her medical degree from Osmania Medical College.
On June 29, 1975, she married her husband of 48 years, Dr. Lavanga Veluswamy. Shortly thereafter, they began the first of their worldwide travels by moving to the United States to start their new life and family.
Dr. Veluswamy completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Muhlenburg Hospital in Plainfield, New Jersey. She then spent over 40 years devotedly caring for her patients in Texas and Louisiana. During her successful career, she felt her greatest accolades came from the reciprocal love she received from her patients. While her medical practice was important, her true passion was the deep and happy relationships she had with her family and friends. She was very social and always wanted those surrounding her to be happy. She enjoyed spending time with her family, talking to her friends, cooking, dancing and most of all laughing. Dr. Veluswamy was devoted to God and gained great spiritual strength through prayer and visiting temples. She took a simple and gentle approach to life, expressing kindness and generosity to all unconditionally. She loved and depended on her husband, who loved and depended on her equally in return. Together, they built a life unimaginable from the place of their beginnings. They raised two loving sons and five grandchildren, they traveled to six continents and built friendships that will continue through generations. When it was her time to go, she simply said to her family that she enjoyed a happy and fulfilling life.
Dr. Veluswamy is survived by her husband, Dr. Lavanga Veluswamy, her son Dr. Hemanth Veluswamy and daughter-in-law Dr. Sheetal Patel, her son Dr. Rajwanth Veluswamy and daughter-in-law Mrs. Leslie Veluswamy, and 5 grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 all in the Riverside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral, Home.
