Paul Anderson's Obituary
GUNNERY SERGEANT PAUL PENNEY ANDERSON, USMC, Ret. of Bartlett, TN, born March 11, 1928 in St. Paul, MN, passed away January 13, 2014 at the age of 85. He married Effie B. “Betty” Anderson, March 11, 1950 at Folly Beach, SC. He spent his younger years at Fort Snelling, MN, and he also lived in GA, TX, LA, SC. He graduated from University of Memphis in 1977, obtained a Master’s Degree plus 50 hours post Masters in 1978-79. He served in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and retired from the USMC on December 31, 1968. While in the Marines, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Gunnery Sergeant. After serving in the Marines, retired from the Memphis City School System in 1989. He was a member of Quito United Methodist Church and the Senior Sunday School Class. He was a life member of Walter K. Singleton Detachment of the Marine Corps League, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7175 Millington, TN, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 116 Millington, TN. He was a member of the Millington Masonic Lodge #671, Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J. USA, Valley of Memphis Orient of TN, and Past Patron of Mishap Chapter #62, Order of the Eastern Star Memphis, TN. He leaves his children, Paul P. Anderson, Jr. of Memphis, James Allen (Joyce) Anderson of Arlington; grandchildren, James Anderson, Michael Anderson of Memphis, TN; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard E. Anderson of Irmo, SC, David Anderson of Chapin, SC; sister, Sandra A. Babbitt (Robert) of Columbia, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl O. and Ida G. Anderson and a son, Carl Wesley Anderson.
