Ahhh…Nancy New! My first friend in Panama City Beach when this little Minnesota girl made her way to the Florida panhandle and onto Hombre Circle. I don’t think I’d been at the house but a couple of hours when I met her, and it didn’t take long until she brought Bill by to meet us. Soon after that we took our first boat trip on the “Southern Star.” It also didn’t take long for Nancy to bond with our fur baby, Gilley, but Nancy loved every pet she ever met. I spent many days and hours chatting with Nancy because we all know any conversation with Nancy was not a quick one. She was a social butterfly. Everyone on the circle knew her. She told me many stories of her life, and sometimes she told me them more than once. She was quick witted. Once a relative asked her if her teeth were real and she grabbed her teeth, pulled on them and said, “The last time I checked they were.” She was eager to help others. It seems like Nancy always had a coat or snacks in her car and would hand them to someone if she saw they had a need. I have several last big memories of Nancy but the one I’ll share is from Christmas 2019: My daughter had just had a baby and we brought Presley over to the New house for Nancy to see her. Nancy scooped her up and told us that we could go home. She said it was the best Christmas present she could have ever gotten. When Nancy left the neighborhood it left a hole in everyone’s heart. She was a beacon of light and love. We are glad you are resting in the strong hands of our Lord, Nancy. You will not be forgotten! Thank you for your wonderful friendship, sweet lady. May God bless the memory of Nancy (Smith) New!
