Michael James Walsh's Obituary
Michael James Walsh, 85, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, TN. Michael attended Christian Brothers High School and signed to play baseball with The Chicago White Sox organization out of high school. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the Army he went to work for International Harvester where he retired. As an avid fan of sports, Michael was an official in football, basketball, baseball and softball. He was inducted into the Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame in 2007 and is a life-long member of The Knights of Columbus. Michael was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn B. Walsh and is survived by his four children, Michael Walsh (April), Patrick Walsh (Mary), Tony Walsh and Catherine Conley (Herbert); seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Agnes Berlin, Joseph R. Walsh, Catherine Breit, and Vincent J. Walsh. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the rosary begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, November 9 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 10 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Ave Maria Home or Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
