Michael Steve Harris' Obituary
Michael Steven “Steve” Harris lived a life defined by love, strength, and quiet generosity. He was a caring son, a devoted husband, a loving big brother, a fun-loving uncle, a loyal friend, a talented musician, a faithful Christian, and a hardworking yard man. He carried himself with quiet strength and a heart that was larger than life. Steve could often be found anonymously paying for a stranger’s meal simply because he sensed they were having a hard day. He sought no recognition—only the chance to brighten someone else’s. His steady presence, encouragement, and willingness to teach others will never be forgotten.
Steve peacefully passed away at home under hospice care, in the arms of his beloved wife. He was 71 years young and a proud resident of Bartlett, Tennessee. In his youth, he worked hard, studied the Word of God, immersed himself in jazz music, and rode motorcycles. He loved sunshine and water, fast boats and cars, choppers, the simple joy of adventure, scuba diving, fixing carburetors, shooting guns, pretty girls, caring for his pets, and spending time with friends, family, and customers. Financially savvy and resourceful, Steve could stretch a dollar further than most and took pride in providing well for those he loved.
Steve was born on November 10, 1954, at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. A four-pound, premature firstborn, he was so tiny that he was placed in a makeshift incubator. Though doctors feared he might not survive, Steve proved from the very beginning that he was a fighter. Throughout his life, he overcame tremendous challenges, including Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, the devastating tornado of 1984 that took nearly everything he owned and almost his life, and a hard-fought three-year battle with throat cancer. His resilience was remarkable. Steve truly was a walking testament to perseverance and faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney Kimbro Harris and Mary Ben (Miller) Harris.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Rhonda Jobe Harris; his siblings, Constance Diane Keen, David Ben (Carol) Harris, Mark Warren (Deby) Harris, and Timothy “Tim” Kevin Harris; his nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Daniel (Hanna), Lucy, and Sydney; his great-niece, Lila Rose; his nieces-in-law, Ella Demilio(fiancé- Hunter) and Lily Demilio; his father-in-law, Larry Jobe; his sister in law, Dr. Jennifer Jobe; his beloved pets, Sweetie Girl, Cleatus, and Daisy; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory always.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., with a service following at 10:00 a.m. Guest are invited to a reception at 11:00 a.m., where Barbecue will be served. Memorial Park Funeral Home (5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119) is in charge of arrangements.
