Mary Ann Strickland's Obituary
MARY ANN STRICKLAND passed from this life into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday March 11, 2024, after a long illness. Mary Ann was born and raised by a loving family in Memphis, Tenn on September 8, 1950, the last of four children and the only girl. She graduated from Memphis State University and had a few jobs before joining her lifetime employer, the Internal Revenue Service. She had a highly successful 25-year career, which took her from Memphis to Ft. Lauderdale, to Jacksonville, and ultimately to Washington DC. When she retired (at 47 year old), she was a high level manager for an Information Systems team in Human Resources. Upon retirement, she moved to Palm Coast, Jacksonville and enjoyed her last 24 years in Interlachen on a beautiful lake.
After retirement, Mary Ann continued to work at places where she felt she could make a difference. She was an Activities Director at a local Long Term Care facility, she volunteered with her therapy dogs at Haven Hospice and other local long term care facilities. One of the accomplishments she was MOST proud of was that she just received her 20 year “coin” from AA. She was a friend and close associate to many, many people through this endeavor. She loved to swim, jet ski and have parties and cook outs at her lake house. One of the highlights of her life was a trip Karen Kratz surprised her with to Hawaii for her 60th birthday.
Mary Ann’s parents, Floyd Strickland, Sr., and Margaret Acree Strickland preceded her in death as did her oldest brother Floyd Strickland, Jr. and second brother George Strickland. She is survived by her brother David Strickland (Judy), her Sister-In-Law Betty Strickland and 7 nephews, 14 great nieces and nephews and 5 great, great nieces and nephews. While Mary Ann had many friends, her closest friends (in order by how long she knew them) were Joann Robinson, Lynn Jones, Scarlet Johnson, and Karen Kratz. She also had a lot of fun and loving association with her Ladies of the Lakes friends in Interlachen. She was an AVID animal lover and is survived by her two dogs, Joy, and Bambi, who are with Lynn and Scarlet.
Mary Ann will be interred beside her parents in Memphis, Tenn. on Thursday, March 21 at 1:00pm at Memorial Park Cemetery after a service in her honor. There will be a memorial service at a future date in Interlachen for her local friends, to be announced later. Any remembrances of Mary Ann can be made to her favorite local charity, the The Animal Rescue Konsortium, (ARK), P. O. Box 171 Crescent City, Fl. 32112.
