I worked with Peggy at the NYC Human Rights Commission when she was Director of the Research Department in the late 1980s, early 1990s. She was really smart and politically savy, and we worked in partnership with the Law Enforcement Unit to issue reports about discrimination in the construction industry, banking and public accommodations. She worked on the first study about anti-gay violence in 1990. She was a wonderful colleague, with a quick wit. I appreciated her mentorship. Rest in power, Peggy.

I met Peggy in 1992 when we both were in Fortaleza, Brazil, to adopt newborn children. Such a bright, even-tempered and caring person! Big-hearted is an understatement. She made it easier for all of us engaged in the adoption process. I corresponded with her a little afterward and have the greatest respect for her. She put less-fortunate people first and worked selflessly for social progress. May her dear Anna, whom I knew as a baby, continue to be a credit to her and have a happy, meaningful life. I'm terribly sorry that Peggy had to leave so soon. It's a real shock. Dorinda Evans
