Marcella, (Mrs Thompson)….one of my favorite childhood memories…not very eventful…just something that stuck with me. Mike and I had slept out in my back yard one night. We got up and went to his house around the corner. Marcella made breakfast for two hungry young boys. She made fried eggs, bacon, toast and my very first cup of perked coffee. I remember the sun shining in their breakfast nook through the steam from the coffee and eggs, how good it all was, sleeping out, hot breakfast in my closest buddy’s house. When Mrs Thompson served us with a smile..it just seemed that this was the way the world was supposed to be. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the world look better. Both of her kids have the same wonderful outlook and affect those around them the same way to this day. Marcella had something special she passed to her kids. It’s something like acceptance, resolve, contentment. I cherish the memory of what I seemed to see in that moment more than 50 years ago. Thank you Marcella. Max Richardson

Marcella is such a significant part of my success and past that it is hard to find words to express what I want to. Here’s one story of many that could be told about Marcella: Mr. Bond and I only had one confrontation during our partnership and that was after the Raleigh Nursing Home was having significant problems. This occurred immediately after we had gotten legislation introduced in Nashville to change the state reimbursement methodology and the State Commissioner of Health retaliated by suspending admissions at Raleigh. The next day I was very stressed out and frustrated about how to deal with Nashville and Mr. Bond and I had words. He basically told me to hit the road if I didn’t want to fight Nashville. I was ready to leave and Marcella was the peacemaker. She came and made peace. She was always Mr. Bonds softer side which helped make him so successful. All of us loved Marcella. She was the smartest one of us all.
