M. E. Bond's Obituary
M.E. Bond, Ph.D. died on June 12, 2019 at his home in Germantown, TN with his wife, Carole at his side. He was born on September 11, 1939 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marne and Martin Bond. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carole L. Bond. They were married on November 18, 1961 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa earning his BBA, MS, and Ph.D. in business and economics. Upon graduating, he moved to Tempe, AZ to become the Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research and an Assistant Professor of Economics at Arizona State University. He left Arizona and moved to Memphis to become the Dean of the College of Business at The University of Memphis. Between his graduation from the University of Iowa and his retirement from the University of Memphis, Mr. Bond served as chair of Arizona Citizens Energy Task Force, member of Arizona Intrastate Tourism Committee, Consultant for Motorola, Random House, Ernst and Ernst, and American Paper Institute. He also was a consultant for America Society of Chapter Life Underwriters, a fellow with Pacific Coast Banking School, President of the Association of University Bureaus of Business and Economic Research. He was the Executive Director of Mid-South School of Banking, member of TN District Export Council, Visiting Associate Professor Economics in the James Wilson Department of Economics at the University of Virginia. Mr. Bond also served as a consultant with the law firm of Borod and Huggins in cases related to small bank acquisitions. In 1982, Mr. Bond was named as one of the most effective community leaders by The Commercial Appeal.
