Linda G. Millwood's Obituary
Linda “Lynn” Gail Millwood, 80, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, passed peacefully in her home on January 12, 2024, after a battle with Peritoneal Mesothelioma. Linda was born on September 4, 1943, an only child to her loving parents, William (Bill) Millwood of Townley, AL and Mildred Hammett Millwood of Altoona, AL.
Linda was a graduate of Memphis State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1965. During her time at Memphis State, Linda was a devoted member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Linda went on to receive her Master of Education from Memphis State University in 1970.
In 1967, Linda began teaching high school business for Memphis City Schools, and she continued teaching for 12 years. Then, in 1979, Linda began working for Delta Air Lines as a flight attendant, then later worked as a facilitator at Delta Air Lines. Linda was the perfect person to work in the airline industry: she was adventurous, kind, patient, and genuinely cared for others. It was no secret that Linda loved to travel, and she had many stories to share about all the beautiful places she visited, such as Amsterdam, her favorite overseas destination.
In 2001, Linda retired from Delta Air Lines. However, Linda continued working within the airline industry until her final retirement in 2006. During her retirement, Linda enjoyed spending time with her parents, whom she took care of until their passing. Linda also found great joy in spending time with and investing in the people she loved as evidenced by the great number of friendships she formed over the years. Linda was affectionately known as “LeLe” to her friends-turned-family members and was a doting maternal figure to those who considered her family. Linda never missed a holiday, birthday, sporting event, graduation, nor family dinner. Her absence in the times to come will be profound.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, William (Bill) Millwood and Mildred Millwood, both whom she absolutely adored. Though an only child, Linda leaves behind a host of loved ones. She is survived by her friends, whom she considered family, Tina Napper White (Ken), Ronda Napper Gray (David), Dwayne Napper (Sara), Crystal Napper, Abigail Gray (Jacob Brigance), Nicholas Gray, Charlotte Gray, and Aaron Napper (Ranae & Lilah); and several loving cousins. Linda also leaves behind a special group of friends from high school and college with whom she has maintained a close relationship with throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Linda.
