Leonora "Poochie" Gill Bishop's Obituary
Leonora “Poochie” Gill Bishop, 88, of Memphis, TN, passed away on January 23rd, 2022.
She was born on October 8, 1933, in Memphis, TN, daughter of the late Nelson Waters Gill and
Leonora Nuvolini Gill.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Kirby J. Bishop in 2009 and her son-in-law,
Rush F. Hobbs, Jr. in 2020.
She graduated from St. Agnes Academy and Memphis State College (now University of Memphis). She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to talk on the phone to family and friends, read books and tabloids, work crossword puzzles, and liked to play with her seven cats. She was a Catholic and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Therese-Little Flower.
The family wishes to thank Sylvia Barringer for writing letters to Mrs. Bishop for the last few years and her caregiver, Versie Hughes, for her love and kindness.
Survivors include her son, Kirby Gill Bishop and her daughter, Laura Bishop Hobbs; brother,
Nelson Waters Gill, Jr. (Patsy); and nieces Shelley Pewitt (Robert), Patricia Gill (Brian);
nephew, Nelson Waters Gill III (Elka); three great nephews and one great niece. She also leaves
behind her former son-in-law, Ross Johnson, friend, Carolyn Taylor and special friend and
driver, Charlie Yonkers.
Graveside services will be 12:00 pm, Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery in
Memphis, TN, with Father Valentine Handwerker officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 -
12:00 prior to services at Memorial Park Funeral Home Riverside Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Donor’s choice.
