Lt. John T. Dwyer (Mpd-Ret.)
I just now found out about Larry’s passing, and I am sorry we lost contact over the years.
I first met him when he became a dispatcher for MPD years ago. Larry was very attentive and actually displayed great care when asking an officer to make a call. He would take the time to verify every bit of information, to insure no officer walked into a bad surprise. When an officer stopped a vehicle, or would check a subject on the street, Larry would run a check on the individual to insure that the officer was not standing there unaware, with a dangerous party. He also would voluntarily have another car meet you if you did make a traffic stop, “just to be on the safe side”, as he put it.
There are many great happy stories I could relate about Larry, and even some very sad ones. Even so, I can relate nothing but how dedicated he was to being a team player. He was a professional in every sense of the word, and a very good friend. I am deeply saddened at his passing. He was one of the greats I personally remember. A colleague, a friend, and most of all a tremendous, and wonderful human being.
A lot of us guys in the field went home to our families safe after our shift, and I can say mainly it was because of Larry’s behind the scenes efforts. As long as I live, I will never forget him and be grateful, neither should a lot of other officers.Rest in peace old friend.
