Thank you Becky, hope you are enjoying life in Tampa.
Rodger, Larry talked about you often about the great times y’all had growing up. Thank you for sharing your memories of his life. Donna
I Remember…Playing “Left Field Ball” on dirt fields and whiffle ball with broom handles and made-up rules.Going to Cardinal games at the old Sportsman’s Park (Busch Stadium I) in Cousin Roe’s Volkswagen and staying at the the Forrest Park Hotel.Going to the old Burger Chef on Cooper after playing golf with our wives at Overton Park. We sat outside and Larry decide he needed a milkshake. On his way back outside, he walked right into the glass door, spilling his milkshake everywhere. “I new something was wrong,” he said, “when the bill of my cap kept squashing down on my nose.”Going to McKeller Lake or Sardis Lake with Larry, Anne, & Cousin Roe, again, in the Volkswagen and towing that old ski boat with the 35 HP Johnson outboard. Man, how that Beetle would struggle up those hills.Cruising McDonald’s, Sandy’s, The Krystal, and Shoney’s, the “Summer Strip”, in that Pontiac gas guzzler (gas was cheap).Cutting class to drive out to Shelby Forest, then having to pick up Coke bottles along the side of the road to sell in order to buy gas to get back. (gas was cheap)Tearing down car engines on the back lot of Rebuilders Sales and Supply.Being a Tempest “Roadie” and traveling with them to juke joints in such places as Clarendon and West Helena, Arkansas.Being each other’s best man.Taking a cruise with our wives to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island aboard the SS Freeport, and Larry walking barefoot on the beach. The tops of his feet got so sunburned, he had to wear sandals out to dinner that night.Lady the boxer.Having a life long friendGod be with you, Donna, Carrie, Lorrie, Ashley, and Anne, and comfort you in your time of sorrow.Rodger Hawkins
Dear Donna and Ashley, beloved family,Greg and I share in your sorrow and loss. We remember fondly the times we shared with Larry, Donna, and Ashley, while the girls (Emily and Ashley) were at St. Louis and then St. Agnes. Larry was such a kind and generous man and would bend over backwards to help Anyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Becky and Greg Bottom
