Friends and Family,My dad, Keith Sharp Sr., passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning at age 87 in his home in Memphis, TN.Pictured here at 18 when he was part of the occupying force in Japan at the end of WWII and two years ago at 85 occupying the Beaches of Destin FL. He raised a family, had 2 successful marriages, a great career automating business processes using what would now be called robotics, hobbies including performing in waterski shows, motocross, building motorhomes, boats and several houses.Pretty amazing guy who was kind of a cross between Captain America, Clint Eastwood and Mcgyver. Always did the right thing, did not take any crap from anyone and could build or repair anything with materials at hand. I’ve been fortunate to see the softer side of him as well as we aged and mellowed together. His boundless love for my step-Mom Annie, the joy he took in his Grandson Brian and the way he was a Father-in-Law to my wife Connie who lost her dad shortly after we married. He had a big heart beneath that steel coating. I use to wonder why an ultra-conservative capitalist would always sell our toys like motorhomes, boats, cars, motorcycles, etc. to families whom he thought would enjoy them for basically whatever they could afford. A rational man with Spock like logic and a firm set of principles including the fallen nature of man. But also spiritual man who not only believed in Christ but lived the life comfortably. His life with Annie was filled with travel and friends and making a home together just as it was with my Mom, Carolyn. There were troubles, of course, especially in the past few years with a heart by-pass, deafness, almost blind from macular degeneration, severe memory loss and occasionally bouts of dementia. My sister Kathy’s death 7 months ago took a real toll on him. Just last week he took a fall from standing on a chair onto a kitchen counter and then the floor which compressed a vertebra and beat him up pretty badly. I believe this may have contributed to his passing. But through it all, he had determination, purpose and concern for those around him even as he realized the end was nearing. A real man I am proud to call my father and a blessing in our lives all these years.Keith H. Sharp Jr.
