Bishop K.D. Johnson, Sr.'s Obituary
Bishop K.D. Johnson was born on July 21, 1961 as the seventh child, to Pastor and Mrs. M.J. Johnson, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was abundantly blessed to be nurtured, in a loving Christian home by his godly parents. At the age of five, while sitting in a Sunday service, he left the side of his mother, and walked to the pulpit to tell his father, he wanted to be baptized. At age nine, he announced the call to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was licensed and ordained by his father, Pastor M.J. Johnson at New Macedonia Baptist Church, and by the age of fifteen, assisting his father in pastoring two churches. His duties included: preaching each week, teaching bible study, teaching Sunday school, administering communion, baptisms, and multiple ministry duties.
Bishop Johnson is a product of the Memphis City Schools. Upon graduation, he commenced matriculation with formal Bible and Theological training at Mid-South Bible College, Friends International, Christian University, and University of Memphis. He was an avid reader, with an extensive and impressive personal library. Bishop Johnson, at age thirty-three, became one of the youngest ever to be consecrated as Bishop in our Lord’s Church and Founding Father of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship World-Wide by Bishop Paul S. Morton. He built the mid-Atlantic Region to one of the largest in the World-Wide Fellowship, as it became known as “The Model Region”.
Bishop Johnson is respected and appreciated by Pastors and Religious Leaders across the country. He has ministered in many churches and conferences in America, including preaching in the New Orleans Superdome. He has also traveled abroad, conducting Revivals and Evangelistic Services in other nations. He is known as a released his “I’m Ready!” in 2019, as well as released his first book “Put A Rail On It.” He is the proud Father of his twenty-five-year-old son, Kerry, who graduated, Double Major, Magna Cum Laude, University Honors form the University of Memphis.
He transitioned this life on October 26, 2020. He will be truly missed and has made a remarkable impact over the entire country. He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life; his only son, Kerry J. (Julia) Johnson II; and his siblings, Doris (Sterling) Embery, Humphrey (Sandy) Johnson, Leo Johnson, Barbara Jordan, Cleather (Danny) Woods and Pastor Tara (Pastor Darrell) Owens.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 6 from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The entombment will immediately follow.
