John McNary's Obituary
After a brief illness, John J. McNary, died peacefully on December 31, 2018. Born on August 29, 1941, in Albany, New York, John served in the Navy from 1958-1964. While working at Bethlehem Steel Corporation, he earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Siena College, and his M. A. in Economics from the State University of New York (Albany). He accepted a position with Federal Express in 1985 and then relocated his family to Memphis, TN, retiring in 2008. Since retirement, John devoted countless hours in service to a range of local charitable organizations including the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the Memphis Historical Society. John earned his Master Gardener certificate and continued part-time teaching up until his death. A member of Holy Spirit Church, John received the Spiritus Sanctus Award in 2016. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Tusa McNary, and his children, Joshua Addison McNary (Julia), Jennifer McNary-McIlvain (Jeff), and Bernadette McNary-Zak (David). He took special interest in the lives of his three grandchildren, David Michael, Benjamin, and Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mid-South Food Bank.Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery on Friday, January 4, from 9-11 a.m. with recitation of the holy rosary at 10 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
