John McCullough's Obituary
John William McCullough, 66, passed away April 18, 2016 at his home in Lakeland, TN following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. His family will receive friends and family Friday April 22 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. John was born January 26, 1950 in Dothan, AL, and grew up in Montgomery, AL. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School (Montgomery) and attended Auburn University, earning the Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1972. John accepted a position in 1973 as design engineer with Memphis Light, Gas and Water, and would spend his entire 38-year professional career with MLGW. After earning the MBA degree from Memphis State University and holding several management positions in engineering and finance at MLGW, he became the company’s Manager for Budget and Rates, and in 1999 was selected as the company’s Chief Financial Officer and Secretary Treasurer, a position he held until his retirement in 2011. Following retirement from MLGW, John was appointed Director of Finance for the City of Bartlett, and in 2012 was selected as President and CEO of the LGW Federal Credit Union. In addition, he served on the MLGW and City of Bartlett pension boards, small private company boards, and was active in many charitable organizations. In addition to his professional career, John was a gifted and accomplished musician, performing on several instruments. He was particularly well known as a guitarist and performed for many years in Memphis and surrounding areas as a member of the local band Delta Rock. John was an Eagle Scout and also held a private pilot’s license. John is survived by his wife Cathy Littman McCullough of Lakeland; two daughters, Emily McCullough of Atlanta, GA and Hallie Semonin of Windsor, CO; a brother, David McCullough of Florence, AL; a sister, Sylvia Eastwold of Montgomery, AL; and two granddaughters, Caroline and Kate Semonin of Windsor, CO. He was also the much-loved “favorite uncle” of his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Kathryn McCullough of Montgomery, AL.
