Joel Vivian Alexander's Obituary
Joel Vivian Campbell Alexander known as Mrs. A by her students and neighbors, passed away July 25, 2023 at home surrounded by family. Joel was born in Memphis, TN on July 28, 1935 to Samuel Wardlow Campbell and Alice Vivian DuBose Campbell. Joel is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Robert Alexander. She is survived by her two children Scott (Nao) Alexander of Collierville, TN. Her daughter Laura (Ed) Austin of Bartlett, TN. She had two granddaughters Brandi (Zach) Davis and Paige (Matt) West. She had three grandsons, Taylor (Sara) Austin, Alex (Silvia) Austin, and Sam (Bre) Austin. She had four great grandchildren with another due in December, Carter and Coen Davis, Otto West and Maverick Austin. Joel is also survived by her sister, Joyce Keen. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Joel had a delightfully playful spirit, which shone through her whimsical sculptures and her talent of teaching Art at Grace St. Lukes Episcopal School. A ceramic artist and member of the Memphis Potters Guild for 35 years she could often be found in her "little house" in her backyard sculpting pet portraits and expressive angels. She was also a member of Artist Link and a beloved member of the art community in Memphis, TN.
Her family will have a celebration of life at a later date.
