I was a student of hers at Waubonsie Valley High. I graduated in 1984. She is the reason I was able to graduate and get my diploma. I had to pass her business math class or I wouldn’t have graduated. I was a immature trouble maker who really didn’t deserve to pass,but she was very patient yet stern with me. I’m so glad to hear she had a strong faith! Sorry for this late entry. I worked with Jo @ WVHS in Aurora for several years. She was one of the most special people I was Blessed to have worked with. Even though I was not a teacher but a clerical staff member, she always made me feel so much a part of the Waubonsie team. May she rest in peace. My heart-felt sympathy to her family.
I was hired by Jo as a Business Ed teacher at Waubonsie Valley High School many years ago. I just retired this year and I can honestly say that Jo was always in my thoughts through all those years of teaching. Jo was one of the sweetest most caring people that I have ever met. I will always remember her beautiful home full of antiques she was so proud of, and for being my friend, my department chair, my mentor, and a role model for teaching and for life. I will always remember Jo’s “southern gentility” as evidenced in her approach to interactions – both with those of us who taught with her at Waubonsie Valley High School, and in regard to her students as well. While no pushover (her strong, straight-talking resolve showed itself when she was protecting her loved ones, and she had many!), her gracious approach to life endeared her to all. She was caring, loving, and kind, and served as a wonderful role model for all of us; faculty and students alike.I am so sorry to read of her passing. Jo was my Business Department Chair at Waubonsie Valley High School. I was so lucky to have her as my leader, mentor, and friend. I learned so much from her–the importance of teamwork, compassion, and the true LOVE of teaching. Thanks Jo for being a part of my life😀 YOU were one special lady❤️
I will always remember Jo from our years of teaching together at Waubonsie Valley High School. When I was first hired, she took me under her wings. I learned so much from her. My favorite times with her were spent when a group of us would go out line dancing back in the early 70’s. Who knew it would become popular again?! My condolences to the family.
