Jerry Lee Anderson's Obituary
Jerry Lee Anderson, Ph.D., Col. USAR Ret., 72, passed away February 26, 2017. He was born November 22, 1944 in Cookeville, TN to Catherine and Hara Lea Anderson. He was valedictorian at Upperman High School, Baxter, TN. He graduated from Tennessee Technical University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He received his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Vanderbilt University. He was a member of White Station Church of Christ. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Colonel in 1997. He taught civil engineering at the University of Memphis for over 39 years, retiring in 2011. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy Wiginton Anderson; children, Jeffery Lee Anderson (Stephanie), Zachary Wade Anderson, Ethan Tyler Anderson, and Catherine Marie Anderson; grandchild, Harper Marie Anderson; sister, Angela Joy Burgess (Colin); brother, Nathan Paul Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Carol Thomas. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, March 3 and funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 4 at White Station Church of Christ. Interment will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 6 at West Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to scholarship funds at Harding University’s Graduate School of Religion.Services have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
