Jerry Kenneth Lee's Obituary
Jerry Kenneth Lee Sr. passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Jerry was born July 2, 1935 in McKenzie, TN and is survived by his wife, Carol Chandler Lee, of Germantown, TN, his four children Teia Tarkington, Teresa Lee, Marsha Lee, and Kenneth Lee, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, a sister, Sara Butler of Huntingdon, TN, a sister in law Margaret Lee, and four nephews, Walter Butler, Lee Butler, both of Huntingdon, TN, and Mark Lee and Clif Lee, of Memphis TN. Jerry graduated from McKenzie High School, attended the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the Million Dollar Marching Band, and after taking a year sabbatical from work, he graduated in 1982 from the Sloan School of Management, at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Jerry was a career employee of the United States Postal Service where his career lead him to increasing roles of responsibility including Comptroller in Washington, DC, Regional Postmaster General for the Northeast Region in New York, Regional Postmaster General for the Chicago Mid-West region and retiring in the Memphis TN area as the Regional Postmaster General for the Southern Region. Jerry and his wife Carol were actively involved in the Memphis area Churches of Christ, where Jerry was an elder at the Germantown Church of Christ, spearheading the churches capital campaign which lead to the relocation and construction of their current location. He was on the Board of Directors for Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, TN, and was a founding member of Agape Child and Family Services in the late 1960s, which continues to serve the needs of children and families throughout the Memphis and surrounding Mid South areas. Jerry pursued many passions involving his love for history and the outdoors and always placed the needs of his family first, which lead to adventurous travels to many of our Nation’s State Parks, China, Russia and throughout Europe. Hunting was Jerry’s passion, which lead to numerous big game hunting trips out West with his many hunting buddies and family included. A visitation with be held Sunday, February 14th from 2 – 4 pm at Germantown Church of Christ. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, February 15th at 10 am at Germantown Church of Christ, followed by burial services at Memorial Park Southwoods. The family request donations in lieu of flowers to be made to Agape Child and Family Services or to the Germantown Church of Christ Building Fund.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”
