Janet Giardini's Obituary
Janet Giardini, 63, of Cordova, TN died Oct. 18, after a valiant battle with cancer.A memorial Mass is planned at St. Gall Church, 120 W. Shannon St., Elburn, IL at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29.Janet was born Sept. 3, 1951, to Paul and Jennie (nee Pieniazek) Giardini. She grew up in Des Plaines, IL, and graduated in 1969 from Maine West High School. She worked as an administrator in Peoria, IL for a community mental health center prior to attending Illinois State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with with a BA in Social Work.Following graduation, she financed herself through law school at the University of Iowa as a research assistant for its clinical law programs. She also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Edward J. McManus, in the U.S. Northern District Court of Iowa and served on the Moot Court Board as a student judge and won a seat as a quarter finalist in the Moot Court competition.After receiving her law degree, Janet worked as a hearing officer for the Illinois State Labor Relations Board, a management consultant for the Greystone Group in Michigan, and as General Counsel for the Horace Mann Mutual Fund Complex in Springfield, IL.She was a member of both the Illinois and Tennessee Bar Associations, and held positions on various boards and professional organizations over the years. She also was a devoted volunteer in numerous school activities for her son.Janet’s good nature and loving personality brought her many loyal lifetime friendships. She was thoughtful, generous, giving, fun-loving, smart, and always ready to help, support, or give a comforting word to anyone in need. She gave her time and energy to many selflessly, but her foremost priority was always her family.She is survived by her husband, Geoffrey Check, and son, Alex, of Cordova; sister, Anaterese (Dario) Pierotti, nephew John (Renee) Pierotti, great-niece Ava Pierotti, niece Gina (Troy) Wormley, great-nephews Brock and Bryce Wormley, aunt Amelia Grossi (nee Giardini), aunt Mary Grossi, and many loving cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jennie Giardini. She will be laid to rest at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL.In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Methodist Alliance Hospice, 6400 Shelby View Dr., Suite 101, Memphis, TN 38134, or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. Gall Church, 120 W.
