Jane Thompson Winchester's Obituary
Jane Thompson Winchester, age 82, departed this life and entered God’s Kingdom on Sunday, July 3, 2016. Born in Memphis on June 17, 1934, she was preceded in death by her parents, Pearly Monroe and Bette Simmons Thompson as well as her siblings, Ellis Thompson, Carrie Barbuto, Marguerite Roten, Monroe Thompson, and Lucille Strack. A homemaker, she was married for 57 years to her high school sweetheart, Bobby Joe Winchester, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1952 and remained an active alumnus throughout her life. Mrs. Winchester was a member of Highland Heights Presbyterian Church in Cordova. She enjoyed traveling and adored her family and friends. Mrs. Winchester was known for her kindness and love of laughter. She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Robert Joseph (Sandy) Winchester of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Phillip Monroe Winchester (Melinda) of Memphis and daughter, Dawn Winchester Johnson (Jeff) of Corinth, Miss. She was affectionately known as “Grand Jane” by her seven grandchildren, Marissa Clark, Shelby Winchester, Brandon Winchester, Luke Johnson (Kitty), Katherine Johnson Marlar (Robb), William Chad Lee, and Rebecca Winchester. She leaves many cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as a multitude of lifelong friends. Her family is grateful for the prayers and kindness shown by so many, especially from Country Cottage Assisted Living in Corinth, Miss. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. and the service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016, at Memorial Park. Memorials may be sent to Highland Heights Presbyterian Church, 2855 Morning Sun Road, Cordova, Tenn.; Alzheimer’s research; breast cancer research; St. Jude Children’s Hospital; or the charity of the donor’s choice.
