Jane H. Eveland's Obituary
Jane H. Eveland, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2022
Her parents, William F. Hewlett and Marguerite M. Hewlett and her husband, Roland R. Eveland, preceded her in death.
Jane was born in Memphis, TN on April 25, 1933. She had a wonderful childhood and developed a life long passion for painting. She was a graduate of Central High School and Memphis State, where she met her future husband of 51 years, Roland Eveland. She was on the Homecoming Court in 1952 and 1953. They married In November 1953 and raised two sons, Rip Eveland and Greg Eveland. Jane loved being a wife and mother but her favorite title was Mimi as she was known by her grandchildren.
Jane was an English and literature teacher and an assistant to her husband when he was a school principal but eventually committed her time to her family and church. Jane made her home a place everyone was welcomed. She was creative and positive and faced all challenges as opportunities. She was an active member of Central Christian Church and later at Germantown United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, was a youth counselor, Women’s ministry chair leader, directed the Hanging of the Greens, member of United Methodist Women and always loved to volunteer. She was a member of the Gilbert Sunday School class at GUMC and the Fellowship Class at WCUMC before moving to Texas in 2016! She cherished her membership at both churches where she formed some of her closest friendships. And she also loved playing bridge!
Jane was an abstract impressionist painter. She used acrylics because of their versatility and liked to paint flowers and landscapes because of there freedom with form and color. She always said that artists paint because they want to paint! She is a Signature member of the National Acrylic Painters association and she is listed in the archives of international artists of the Tate Museum in London. Her paintings hang in many homes and businesses throughout the country.
She is survived by her son, Roland R. (Rip) Eveland, Jr. (Bonnie) of Lafayette LA, son William Greg Eveland (Dawn) of Trophy Club, TX , granddaughters Kate Eveland Schierholtz (Nate), Kristi Jane Eveland Smith (Tripp), grandson Roland R. (Rob) Eveland III (Brier) and four great grandchildren: Avery Schierholtz, Ford Schierholtz, John Eveland and Peyton Jane Smith.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, July 14 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. all in the Fireside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery
