James Woody Welch's Obituary
James “Woody” Welch passed away peacefully on October 6, 2022 at the age of 78. Woody was born and raised in Oxford MS, where he met the love of his life Joyce in the 8th grade, Joyce and Woody married in 1968 and would go on to have two sons, Mark and Lance, they shared 54 blessed years building a beautiful life together.
After graduation from the University of Mississippi, Woody kickstarted his career in sales with Central Soya, later following Trailmobile, these two companies were steppingstones that laid the foundation for him to join forces with longtime childhood friend Mike Starns to help build and take public MS Carriers. After retiring from MS Carriers, Woody went into business with his son Mark where they built and grew a multitude of successful businesses side by side for over two decades.
When Woody wasn't working, he could be found helping others with various projects. He was a stranger to no one and found great purpose in sharing his successes in life with others, especially with the church and the Kairos Prison Ministry. Everyone who knew Woody felt his big heart and giving nature.
He was a huge fan of football - especially his number one team the Ole Miss Rebels. Woody enjoyed spending time with his family and friends fishing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors.
Woody was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, and friend. He always taught people to stand tall, be proud and know themselves in all situations. Woody supported many people in their accomplishments and difficulties throughout their lives.
He will be deeply missed especially by his wife Joyce; his sons Mark and Lance; his grandsons Jarrett, Corbin, Landon, and Brody, and all who knew him.
Viewing and funeral services will be held at Germantown Baptist Church Monday, October 10, 2022, Viewing Service 10:00am-12:00pm, Funeral Service 12:00pm-1:00pm
The Interment burial ceremony will commence at Memorial Park Cemetery 1:30pm-2:30pm immediately following funeral services.
