To say Jim Walters was loved and well respected by everyone who knew him is an understatement.
I met Jim in 1981 when I joined Delta Mailing and worked with him in the mailing business for more than 25 years. When I started, I wasn’t even sure how much a first class stamp cost !! Over the years not only was I rewarded to have him as my boss but more importantly blessed to call him my dear friend.
One of the best examples of him showing his love and compassion for people was something I experienced personally when our 18 year old son passed away. He told me to take off days, weeks, and even a month if I needed that time. The day I returned to the office, he met me at the front door, took my hand, walked me to my office, shut the door and cried with me. He then walked me through our plant hand in hand so I wouldn’t have to go by myself facing all the employees. He took care of me and my family in so many ways.
For countless years afterwards, at Christmas, he and Brenda made a St. Jude Children’s Hospital contribution in memory of our son, Brandon. Each year, I would place the acknowledgment on the front of our Christmas tree for all to see. I couldn’t have put him on a higher pedestal, and he knew it because I told him several times. I’m a better person for having known him. I will miss you dearly. Love you Jim
