James E. Garrett's Obituary
James E. Garrett, 88, born in Atwood Tennessee to James C. Garrett and Flossie L. Garrett, entered his Heavenly home on January 21, 2014. He was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and retired in 1994. Mr. Garrett served in the US Infantry during World War II and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Ellendale Baptist Church and one of the earliest members of Cherokee Baptist Church. Mr. Garrett was fortunate to be married to two Godly women; Angelene H. Garrett for 47 years until her death in 1997 and his surviving wife, Doris B. Garrett, was his constant companion to the end. Mr. Garrett was a huge Tennessee Volunteers and St. Louis Cardinals fan; he could tell you any statistic on any of the players for years back. He leaves behind his wife, Doris B. Garrett, two sons Danny (Cathy) of Bartlett and David (Virginia) of Newport, TN. He also leaves behind three grandchildren Arwen, Emily, and Geoffrey , as well as two stepdaughters Joanne (Tommy) Tompkins from Lewisville Texas, and Janet (Pat) Gray from Ft. Worth Texas, and five step grandchildren-Brian, Shannon, John Patrick, Jordan, and Jeremy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Memphis Union Mission (PO Box 1938, Memphis TN 38101 or www.memphisunionmission.org) or Forever Young Senior Veteran Wish Organization (PO Box 1381, Collierville TN 38027 or www.foreveryoungseniorwish.org).
