James "Jim" Bullard's Obituary
Lt. Jim Bullard was born April 13, 1936 and passed away October 3, 2017. He graduated CBHS in 1955, where he was Vice President of his class and voted friendliest by his peers. He obtained a Bachelor’s of Science from Memphis State University in 1971 and a Master’s in Education in 1976. He served as the physical trainer for the Memphis Police Department, teaching his trainers that “It pays to be a winner.” He retired from the police department in 1984 after 27 years of service. He developed a self-defense program while in the police department and continued to tour nationally after his retirement. He also authored a book entitled “Looking Forward to Being Attacked” His favorite line was “never let a low life character spoil three minutes of your day.” He was passionate about exercise and later became a personal trainer and left this world in his favorite place-his gym. He leaves behind his wife, of 57 years, Mary Elizabeth Bullard; two children, Jeff (Ginger) Bullard and Jennifer (Jim) Brannon and three grandchildren, Jack, Charlie, and Morgan Brannon; half-brother, Richard Guizlo and half-sister, Diane Brown. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 5 from 5 pm until 7 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 6 at 1 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kirby Wood Baptist Church. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
