Jack Edward Henry's Obituary
Jack Edward Henry went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday April 5, 2015. He was born December 5, 1930 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Everett and Audra Henry. He grew up in Akron, Ohio along with his brother Jim and sisters Mary Lou and Betty. When his father became disabled, Jack left high school in the 10th grade to help support his family. A few years later, he was drafted into the Army and served his country overseas during the Korean War. When he returned home, Jack met the love of his life, Shirley Azar, to whom he was married for the next 58 years. He earned his business degree from Akron University over a seven-year period by attending night classes and working two jobs – one of which was as a truck driver. Following his graduation, he moved into management within the trucking industry and eventually became a Vice President for Humboldt Express. In 1985, he co-founded Mid-South Transport, where he served as President and Chairman until he retired. His true passion was serving and helping people, whether it be for his family, through his work, or his many charitable endeavors. His wisdom, humor, encouragement, and deep love of his family and friends will be greatly missed. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jack is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Michael Sr., Mark and Matt, grandchildren Jessica, Michael Jr., Rachel, Kathryn, and Luke, and great grandchildren Colton, Katelyn, and Chance. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday April 11, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 2404 Kirby Rd, Memphis, TN, 38119. The family has asked that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Page Robbins Adult Day Center, 1961 South Houston Levee Rd, Collierville, TN, 38017. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
