I’m Luke Henry, Jack’s Grandson. My grandfather, Jack Henry, or Big as I called him, has passed away. I don’t remember too much about him, but he made a huge impact on my life today. Growing up, I went to my grandparents’ house on Thursday and Big would always take off work to see me. Every time I got restless at an event, he would take me for a walk. He was nothing but kind, loving and compassionate towards me. He showed me that love can come from someone other than parents and God. Even after his mental state deteriorated, he showed me love and compassion by how my Dad took care of him. My Dad showed the same love to Big as Big had to me. Secondly, Big taught me the beginnings of thriftiness and multiplying a little into a lot. He taught me hard work pays off and that you can change who you are. He grew up poor, but with hard work, kept my grandmother, Little, safe from financial issues beyond his passing. Lastly, he’s impacted my life so much that he’ll never be truly gone for me. He lives in my heart, he walks with me in any walk I take around a lake, and shows up in my father in the way he drives, plans, and loves. I’ll miss Big so much, but I know he’s at piece with my Lord. That makes me know he’ll live on forever.
