Howard Vernon Johnson's Obituary
Howard Vernon Johnson of Germantown, TN passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 after 83 full years of life. Howard was born on April 1, 1936 to John Lee Johnson and Avis Fanning Johnson in the bustling metropolis of Goat City, TN near Jackson. He was the second youngest child of his parents, with older brothers James and Nathan, older sister Hilda, and younger brother Glenn constituting the Johnson herd. On October 5, 1963, Howard married the love of his life, Jan Holt, with whom he would enjoy over 55 years of mostly wedded bliss.Howard was a member of the National Guard in the 1950s, and he would go on to have a prosperous career in sales and marketing at Teepak of Danville, IL. When he wasn’t working, he was an avid golfer, fisherman, and consummate family man dedicated to enriching the lives of his wife and children. After his retirement, Howard volunteered at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital and Manna House, where his warmth and compassion touched the lives of everyone with whom he crossed paths. His dedication to serving others in his community without the need for recognition served as an inspiration to his family and friends.His wisdom, amiable nature, and quirky sense of humor will be dearly missed. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers James and Nathan, and his sister Hilda. He is survived by his wife, Jan, children Deb Schroeder (David Lemay), Nici Williford (Worthen Williford), Tari Ellery (John Ellery), Penny Turner, and Adam Johnson, grandchildren Jason Schroeder (Cuc Schroeder), Meredith Croft (Brandon Croft), Kristin Tyler (Jeff Tyler), Maddie Ellery, Bailey Turner, Jacob Williford, and Kate Ellery, and great-grandchildren Levi Croft and August Croft. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis.
