Gerald William Bursi's Obituary
Gerald William Bursi, age 83, finished his walk on this earth April 21, 2024 after a lengthy illness.
Gerry was born on April 1, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee to Lula Cunningham and Joseph Bursi. As the 3rd born of 4 children, he was lovingly known as 'Gerald-alice', Pop or Gerry
He lived his life to serve and protect, joining the Memphis Police Department in 1963. Marked by the loss of two partners while in the line of duty, Gerry worked his way up to the rank of Inspector by the time he retired in 1992. Still wanting to contribute to his community, he finished his career in security for various Federal Agencies and casinos.
Know as opinionated, loud and boisterous, Gerry had a laugh that was infectious. He was always fun and loved to be goofy with those around him. His love of westerns and military history was well known among his family and carried over to those around him. As an avid collector and rebuilder of guns, he made many good friends.
Gerry is preceded in death by his parents Lula and Joseph and brothers, Bob and Charles. He is survived by his sister Jean Bursi Gonyaw.
Many others loved him greatly, including Kay Von Boeckman, Joshlyn Pettus (Keith, Joshua, Jennie), Nicki Shaner (Angelica, Noah), Bruce Bursi, Kim Brown (Shea, Carley, Oakley-Vanness (Dylan), Holden Brewer), David Von Boeckman (Dang, Hayden, Levi).
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Gerry to St. Jude or Baptist Reynolds Hospice House.
