Dr. Genaro Miguel Angel Palmieri MD
Dr. Genaro “Tito” Palmieri, MD passed away June 7th 2022 at his home in Memphis, Tennessee, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 29th 1929 (or “9-29-29” as he liked to say) in Córdoba, Argentina. There he finished medical school and residency before moving to Stockholm, Sweden for his fellowship in Endocrinology at the prestigious Karolinska Institute. While in Stockholm he met and married the love of his life, Eva Lysholm. Their 61st wedding anniversary was on June 15th 2022.
They moved to back to Cordoba, Argentina, where their 2 daughters Ana and Maria were born. In 1964 they moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where their two sons Miguel and Maurice were born. Tito was an avid researcher and clinician, and is highly regarded in his field of medicine.
In 1974 the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee where he worked at the University of Tennessee as a Professor, researcher, clinician, and Medical Director of the Memphis Metabolic Bone Center. His passion was not only for metabolic bone disease, but to help find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Tito was an avid researcher and clinician, and is highly regarded in his field of medicine. A member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and the Advisory Panel for the Paget’s Disease Foundation, Dr. Palmieri has published over 160 articles and abstracts regarding the study of bone disease. He retired from the West Clinic at the age of 84. His passion for family, faith, life, medicine and all humanity is felt by everyone who knew him.
He is preceded by his parents Francisco and Genoveva Palmieri, his brother Horacio Palmieri and by his son Maurice Palmieri. He leaves behind his beloved wife Eva, son Miguel, daughters Dr. Maria Petrick (husband John), Healsburg, CA, Dr. Ana Palmieri-Neel (husband Rick), Collierville, TN, grand-daughter Eva Marie Neel, Auburn, AL and sister Judith D’Elía, Mendoza, Argentina.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Memphis, Tennessee at 10:00am on Friday July 1st, followed by internment at Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
