Frances Dean Dodson's Obituary
Frances Dodson, 91, passed away on January 22, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born Frances Dean Robertson on May 13, 1932, to Rufus and Artie Robertson of Bardwell, Kentucky. She was married to Gene Dodson of Beulah, Kentucky, for 65 years.
She is survived by a sister, Edith Kennemore, of Smyrna, Georgia; three sons: Gregory (Karen), Kevin (Lynda), and Kenneth (Julie); ten grandchildren: Julie Turner (Ty), Brian (Mandi), Sarah Sides (Jeff), Kelly Grubbs (Danny), Will, Devin (Holly), Dena Davis (Matt), Davis, Brandon (Rebecca), and Deanna Weaver (John); and 17 great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Luke, Jonah, Milly, Riley, Daniel, Charlotte, Abigail, Thad, Austin, Lana, Knox, Noah, Levi, Savannah, Locklyn, and Hayley.
After graduating from Bardwell (Kentucky) High School, Frances attended Murray State University and Memphis State University. She worked as a Certified Professional Secretary for the Internal Revenue Service, Memphis State University, and the U.S. Postal Service.
A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Frances was an active member of three local churches in the Memphis area. She was a proud member of Park Avenue Baptist Church, Cherry Road Baptist Church, and Collierville First Baptist Church over the years.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her son, Keenan (Mona); her brother, James Robertson; and her sister, Dorothy Cayard.
“Nana,” as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren call her, was most proud of her family. She loved telling stories, sharing photos, and bragging about those she loved.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 30, at 12 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, with a service to follow at 1 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, at the Beulah Community Cemetery, 8039 State Highway 307, Fancy Farm, Kentucky.
The family requests that any memorial donations in her honor be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Remembrances may also be sent to Beulah Cemetery c/o Elvis Courtney, 750 State Route 1748, Fancy Farm, KY 42039.
