This is a photo of Betty Young and her two children Richard Young, Jr., and Rodney Young taken on the occasion of her Senior Recital and Graduation from Memphis State University, May of 1968. Betty was my aunt by marriage to my mother's (Nancy Young Little) brother, Richard DeMedicis Young, Sr. I remember the first time I met Betty and she certainly made an impression. I was about five years old when my mother and I visited Betty at her work office in downtown Memphis. I remember meeting her and thinking '...she is so beautiful...' and she was just as nice as she was pretty. It was shortly thereafter I attended Richard and Betty's wedding. The ceremony was a blur and the reception was magical. The tiered cake was decorated with swirls of icing and painted flowers. Betty wore a gorgeous wedding gown and a radiant smile; she looked like a princess from a fairytale.
I remember her vivacious personality, her vibrancy, creativity and sense of presence. Her sons Richard and Rodney carry forward many of the attributes that made her who she was. She was a great lady who had a talent for life and will be missed.
