Elbert Waters' Obituary
Elbert Malachi Waters III, age 65, passed away suddenly at his home on March 16, 2016. He was born January 12, 1951 in Chicago, IL to Emma Lark Waters and the late Elbert M. Waters II. Elbert graduated from Harlan High School in Chicago, IL and after graduating he completed some university schooling in Iowa. After Iowa, he left to attend George Williams College where he met the love of his life, Marlene Carr. On March 3, 1979, they were married and their union has lasted for 37 years. Together over those 37 years they raised two beautiful children, Marlena and Malachi.Elbert’s numerous career choices during his life varied but all were quite interesting. He was a musician, a postal carrier, a Cook County correctional officer, a Chicago police officer, an entrepreneur in the food industry, and retired as an educator. His continued desire to make a difference in the lives of children is what motivated him to obtain his bachelor’s degree, with a focus on elementary education. Once he obtained it, he felt it was important to be able to make that difference at a school in an inner city. Even so, his greatest passion was being a musician –which he returned to after he retired from teaching. Elbert has many hobbies but his favorites were sailing, playing chess, and reading. He shared his enthusiasm for life and was admired and respected by all who knew him.He is survived by his wife Marlene, three children Marlena Elayne Waters, Major Elbert M. Waters IV (Lola), Brian Beecher Waters (Sherri), mother Emma Lark Waters; sisters Nadine Mason (Larry), Cynthia Rose (James); grandchildren Anthonio, NeVaeh, Brooklyn, Christa, Elbert V, Bryant, Brandon, Christopher, Caleb; Great granddaughter Lilyana. Additionally there are many nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members. We will truly miss his physical presence but we know his spiritual presence will always be with us. All we have to do is be still and whisper his name. Acknowledgements The family wishes to express our deep appreciation for expressions of sympathy and acts of kindness. The love shown to us during this time of bereavement has been comforting. To God be the Glory for the things he has done.
