I’m sadden by the lost of Mr. Waters. My daughter, Shaniah, was a former student of his. He was a great man and genuinely cared for his students. He was always so encouraging and pushing my daughter further and further. He opened the doors for greater opportunities for her, and we are forever grateful. I’m saddened we couldn’t say our final goodbyes, but the impact he made in our lives we will cherish forever. Thank you Mr. Waters and rest well! My prayers and deepest condolences to his wife and the entire family.
So many great memories…my father was a good man. I can’t believe he isn’t here, we had so much left to do together, so many more things to see. One of my favorite days with him was when he visited me and the fam in Indianapolis. I took him to a Colts game and we were down on the field with the players. After the game I took him to an old mob spot downtown that was turned into a cigar bar. We had some drinks and he made me laugh because I gave him a cigar that was stronger than he expected and as he lit it he coughed and choked and accidentally spit in this waitress’s face that was trying to take our order…lol. After the cigar bar we caught some live music at the Slippery Noodle Inn, the oldest blues bar in Indie. It was so crazy because in the band that was rocking the crowd was one of my dad’s old friends! So random that in the middle of nowhere my dad would run into someone he knew. But that was him, an endless adventure…we were all lucky and blessed to have known him. He is and will forever be loved and missed. He will live on forever in our hearts and minds… and will have eternal life because he believed in God.Check his swagger one more time: https://youtu.be/8nLJ4Dp3lpsHis son, Elbert Malachi Waters IV
Where do I start about my Uncle Elbert…before my mother got married Uncle Elbert was one of those male father figures I leaned on so heavily. I remember everything from the days on H2O, the Ford Mustang in the back yard to the 1st time we visited him at his Checkers Memphis. I remember seeing work the signal light at the museum of science and industry. Me and mom would drive by, honk at him and he would wave with a big ol smile. He was always full of excitement and conversation. He was a great communicator and listener with an infectious laugh. I remember him trying to teach me how to play chess on his computerized chess board and building model planes in the basement. As an adult I remember him telling me how proud he was of me and that meant everything. I’m going to miss my Uncle so much but at least I know that my Grandpa has a new person to have a great convo with in heaven.Love you always and forever, Courtney
Uncle Elbert will most definitely be missed! He was such a delightful person to know!! A lover of music, people, and life. You never felt left out or like a stranger with Uncle Elbert around. When he asked “how you doing” or “how you been”, he meant it. He was a person who genuinely cared about you and your wellbeing. I will forever love and remember you Uncle Elbert, thank you for being ALL that and a bag of chips!!! I love you Aunt Marlene, cousin Marlena, Malachi, and family May the Peace of God rest on all the hearts touched by the one and only Elbert Waters III. Angelina
Prayers and condolences

It’s hard writing about Elbert without tearing up. He was such a fun loving person and so full of life. I stood with Elbert and Marlene at their wedding 37 years ago, and there was never a dull moment with the two of them. When Carol and I would go down to Memphis on the bus or train, Elbert would always come with Marlene to pick us up. He would be so excited to see us, and would have a whole schedule of activities planned for us. I will forever treasure all the wonderful times we had together. I thank God for bringing the two of them together and giving them a lifetime of love, friendship and companionship. Rest in peace brother-in-law.My Heartfelt Sympathy to the Family.Phyllis Streeter

There are no words to describe how much we will miss this great man. Elbert was an incredible friend, father and grandpa. He brought happiness to everything he did. .He always inspired and encouraged you to be better, reach higher and to give every task your all. Elbert could always be counted on to be a listening ear. When he gave advice, it was good advice for he never criticized you. He always came from a place of compassion. Some of our best memories are spending time with him, his lovely wife and Malachi’s family for the 4th of July fireworks displays in Wyoming. We had so much fun but so little time. If I could say one last thing to Elbert it would be…Thank you. Thank you for being the grandpa my son never had and I thank you and Marlene for including him in your life and in your love. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Marlene and family at this very difficult time. We love you and may the God of all comfort bless you and keep you.Love, Brian, Sherri and Caleb
